RACE DAY INFORMATION

  • The post code for the start area is NP4 9BD.
  • there are no entries on the day.
  • transport is now fully booked and we are unable to take any more bookings.
  • lost numbers or number didnt arrive - meet Chris Philpott in the Leisure Centre Car park. She will be there from 6.15am - please allow time for a new number to be allocated.
  • late entries not posted out - PICK UP YOUR RACE PACK ON THE DAY OF THE RACE FROM PONTYPOOL ACTIVE LIVING CENTRE CAR PARK (NP4 8AT). PACKS WILL BE AVAILABLE FROM 6:15am. THERE WILL BE NO PACKS AVAILABLE AT THE START IN BLAENAFON.
  • buses will be arriving at Pontypool Active Living Centre car park (NP4 8AT) from 6:45am and will leave as soon as they are full. We will have four 75 seaters operating a shuttle service
  • sorry - no race buggies
  • bone conduction earphones are permitted, but not encouraged. It is your responsibility if an accident occurs as a result of using personal audio equipment.
  • if using the bus service, your car will  be where you parked it in Pontypool when you finish the race (we have been asked....)
  • guidelines on the race are included in your race pack.
  • PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU FILL IN THE BACK OF YOUR RACE NUMBER
  • safety pins will not be provided for numbers to be attached
  • PLEASE NOTE, THE TEAM WILL BE UNAVAILABLE FROM 12pm, FRIDAY JULY 11th. If you have any queries or need further information please get in touch before then.

 

Running in heat:

Dress appropriately for the weather

Drink to thirst - water will be available just after 5km and at the finish - but we encourage everyone to carry a waterbottle. 

Keep in the shade where possible

Ask for medical help if you feel unwell.

Do not take part if they you have been unwell recently

Carry a mobile phone if you can.

Slow down or walk if you are struggling.

For 2025 we have introduced a new prize structure and a new awards ceremony. Only 1st, 2nd and 3rd Overall Male and Female and the Junior winners will be awarded on the day - all category prize winners will be contacted within a few days after the race.

  • 2nd Male Overall - 2nd Female Overall

  • 3rd Male Overall - 3rd Female Overall

 

1st Junior (15 -19 years) Male and Female

 

Category Prizes:

  • 1st +40 Male and Female

  • 1st +50 Male and Female

  • 1st +60 Male and Female

  • 1st +70 Male and Female

  • 1st +80 Male and Female

  • Athlete with a disability Male and Female

One prize per person and prizes only awarded if there are more than 2 in the category

 

All profits from the Race will be donated to the Mic Morris Memorial Sporting Trust Fund to be used to support our aspiring young athletes.

Road closures

A full road closure will be in place for the event and roads will be closed from 8am until 11:30am.

The main roads that will be closed along the race route are:

  • A4043 Cwmavon Road from the junction of Prince Street and New William Street in Blaenavon to Old Road in Abersychan
  • Old Road
  • Limekiln Road
  • Freeholdland Road
  • George Street
  • Mill Road
  • Hospital Road
  • The northern section of Osbourne Road to its junction with Riverside
  • Riverside
  • Park Road leading up to Penygarn Road

Side roads will not be formally closed but no vehicles will be allowed to access the route during the race. Access for the emergency services will be maintained at all times.

Torfaen 2k Family Fun Run

In addition to the main 10k event, we also host a 2km fun run for the younger runners and families within Pontypool Park. Everyone joining in will receive a medal. Head over to our Family Fun Run page for more information and to register
